Team Leader: Employment & Life-Skills Counsellor for our
upcoming
program: The Youth Animation Project.
Team Leader: Employment & Life-Skills Counsellor

About the Project:
The Youth Animation Project is a program for community action through
animation
involving 12 youth participants between the ages of 15 and 30.
Youth work as a team to create animations on issues related to Youth and
the Environment, and receive training in life- and employability-skills.
QAS' 2006 program
welcomes all youth, including immigrant youth,
Aboriginal youth, street-involved youth and others who face barriers to
employment.
About the Position:
This position is responsible for the delivery of employment preparation
to youth in the
program:
���� To provide intake,
assessment, case management, group and
����� individual
employment counselling, information and referral and
����� other
related services.
���� To build relationships and
develop employment opportunities with
����� employers
to ensure participants employment goals are met.
Management, Assessment & Development
���� To manage and lead a team of
three in the development of a
����� successful
life skills/employability program, centred around
����� animation
���� To case-manage 12 youth
facing barriers to employment
���� To counsel youth in relation
to life-skills and life issues
���� To assess participant skills
and abilities, employment interest
����� and
barriers to successful employment to determine employment
����� needs
and develop a plan of action to successfully address those
����� barriers
���� To clarify employment,
training or career goals by exploring the
����� local
labour market, education and training
����� opportunities/resources,
including apprenticeship opportunities
���� To provide information on the
local labour market, careers and
occupations (including self-employment) and employment preparation techniques
���� To assist participants in
obtaining the skills necessary to be
����� successful
in their self-directed job search
���� To build beneficial
relationships with community partners to
����� ensure
intake and referrals targets are met
���� To follow-up with clients,
community partners, referring agencies
����� and
employers
���� To conduct
regular group workshops in all areas of job search
����� including, but not limited to labour market information,
resumes,
����� cover
letters, job search techniques, interview techniques, etc.
���� To adhere to and maintain
outcomes target as set by QAS and
����� Service Canada
���� To ensure a high quality of
customer service
Job Development
�� ��To develop employment opportunities and make
direct placements
����� with
employers
���� To market hard-to-serve
participants to employers in an area to
commensurate with the participants' skills, interests and abilities
���� To conduct follow up
(employment, return to school, further
����� training),
and ensure positive outcomes
���� To assist in the maintenance
of a job order bank, keeping orders
����� current
���� To assist in the production
of reports on the profile of clients
����� placed,
number of jobs developed, status of placements, etc.
���� To achieve required service
outcomes in employment, education and
����� training
���� To conduct evaluations with
employers and participants with a view
����� to
improving customer service
Qualifications
���� University Degree (preferably
in Social Work or related field) and
����� experience
in counselling, job development and group
facilitation
Experience in using assessment tools to assess clients
is essential
���� Proven track record in
meeting targets
���� Familiarity with the Calgary
business sector
���� Knowledge and understanding
of the target group, labour market
����� information
and resources in Calgary for youth job seekers
���� Excellent written and verbal
communication skills
���� Group
leadership/curriculum/program development skills
���� Ability to relate to socially
and economically disadvantaged youth
���� Interest/experience in visual
or media art is an asset

Employment Details
The position of Team Leader: Employment & Life Skills Counsellor
pays
$25.00hour, working 37.5 hours per week, and runs from August 21 to
December 22, 2006. The position may be renewed for a second term.
