Who Are We?
WIFTA is a non-profit organization that promotes and assists the professional development, equitable treatment, recognition of achievements and the creation of new opportunities for professionals, especially women in the film, video, multimedia and television industries.
What Do We Do?
WIFTA helps members from across Alberta grow, advance and sustain their careers and businesses on a local, provincial, national and international level. Through the generous support of foundations, corporations and individuals, WIFTA provides networking opportunities, mentorships, information, professional development and events for it's members and the public.
How Did Women In Film Start?
Alberta is the most recent chapter of an organization that started in 1973 in Los Angeles, California. WIFT was started by a group of women in the film industry determined to improve opportunities for women in all key roles, including producers, directors, writers, actors, crew, distributors, and all multi-media support roles. More than 40 chapters now operate around the world, including 4 in Canada. Every two years, a chapter of WIFT hosts an international summit to further cooperation between women professionals on a global level, and to identify key issues affecting women today.
